I’ve been shooting a lot lately. More than ever before.
June 10 – I met some of the LA Streettogs at Hatakeyama Gallery for some shooting in DTLA. I had a great time, I was happy to meet some of the streettogs that I hadn’t yet met. I always have fun shooting in a group, I feel challenged, I feel emboldened, but there are also draw backs … People in your group in your shot, people shooting the same subject, people moving at different paces … Bottom line though … I’ll go on a group outting with these photographers any chance I get. Its an honor to be able to shoot along side of these photographers.
Later that week I was contacted about participating in a group exhibition at the Hatakeyama Gallery. A street photography exhibit with the theme, chosen by Eric Kim, of cars. I am super flattered to be considered and really excited to participate in my first street photography show. The show will be a part of LA Artwalk on July 12, 2012. The images are going to be 20 x 30 canvases. Its going to be interesting to see the pictures that big!
June 16 – I went to the annual L.A. Roadster Car show and swap meet in Pomona to shot for the “cars” exhibit. I shot from 7:30am to about 2:00pm. It was a long, hot day. I bought a Lambretta scooter cowell for a friend, saw some cool cars that I knew nothing about, met up with 2 friends and their dads and got some good shots. I got the shot that that I am using for the cars show. The image below was the runner up … To see the one in the show, I guess you gotta go to the show:
June 16 – Later in the day, Supernova played under the name “Gum Fighters” – I really struggled with my flash at that show – I spent more time looking at my camera menu than I did manning the merch booth or watching/shooting the band.
June 17 – I got to do a photo shot for a product from the company where my wife works. This was fun. I was hanging out of the passenger window of a moving car shooting moving scooters with the scooterists wearing the product we were working with. Big thanks for our scooterist friends and to Taurino for hanging out of the back seat window and handling the flash! This picture is one of my favs of our friends, it is not the one we are using for the product … That one’s still a mystery.
June 20 – I submitted the image for the “Cars” show (not due ’til 6/25 but I was encouraged to submit early in case any adjustments were needed). I really leaned hard on my wife and friends to help edit and post process and title the image. Thank you Weave, Dee, Dennis, Rinzi, Androo and Keven. The title of the image submitted is “Grenade Inspector” which is slang in the hot-rod community for “newbie” or “kid.” I’m not going to share that image until after the show … I over-share everything else, so this time I will try to keep a lid on it.
