the other day i walked otis through a stretch of 1st street in santa ana that is a little rough around the edges. we were walking at about 4:00 in the afternoon, less than a mile from my office. i have to admit, i was a little uncomfortable. there were junkies, hookers, thugs … i’m not exaggerating. now, to be clear, i am not claiming that the woman pictured below is anything but i nice lady who wanted to talk to otis. she appeared to be dressed as a bumble bee cheerleader (black and yellow. yellow knee high socks, almost matching hair). i had to take a picture of her. i had to take a few and i was really hoping she wouldn’t notice because i didn’t know how she’d react … so i snapped a few … i was so excited to see the one below, until i realized that it was not in focus. this is the final straw. i know many street photographers use zone focusing. i know it is not that difficult, in fact i understand the concept, i have just never set my camera up to use it … NOW I WILL!!
